Typescript carbon copy of a statement made by John William Henry Frederic in 1926, regarding his knowledge of the George Custer campaign against the Sioux and the Battle of the Little Big Horn, followed by two signed typescript carbon copies of statements by Ezra R. Whitla and Clement Wilkins attesting to the truthfulness of Frederic's statement, dated 1938 Feb 9. With one TLS from Frederick E. Williamson to Andrew Keogh dated 1938 Feb 17, with which the above-described statements were transmitted to the Yale University Library; a photostatic copy of a 1938 May 26 TLS from E. S. Adams of the United States War Department to F. E. Williamson, describing the Army service record of John W. B. Frederic; and a photostatic copy of an affidavit signed by William Hefner Frederic on 1939 Jan 1, about the truth of his father's statement regarding General Custer.

Custer's paternal ancestors, Paulus and Gertrude Küster, came to the North American English colonies around 1693 from the Rhineland in Germany, probably among thousands of Palatines whose passage was arranged by the English government to gain settlers in New York and Pennsylvania. According to family letters, Custer was named after George Armstrong, a minister, in his devout mother's hope that her son might join the clergy.
